Mayor Seals Off Home in Brielle After Drugs Are Found

On May 13, 2026, Mayor Arno Scheepers ordered the closure of a residence due to a drug-related offense. The residence is located on Mallegout Street in Brielle, and the closure is effective for six months.

Following a police investigation, a commercial quantity of hard drugs was found in the residence in March. In addition, large quantities of raw materials that could be used for the production of hard drugs were discovered. The drugs and raw materials were seized. The mayor closed the residence after careful consideration based on the police findings. The resident of the property was subsequently given the opportunity to state his position on the matter and to initiate legal proceedings.

Mayor Scheepers: “Recently, there have been several incidents in which commercial quantities of drugs were found in homes. Drug trafficking in a residential neighborhood is unacceptable and creates life-threatening situations. I am therefore very pleased with the increasing number of reports, including those made through Report Crime Anonymously. Alert residents mean we have more eyes and ears in the neighborhoods. This ensures that abuses come to light more often, allowing the police and the municipality to intervene more effectively. So if you see anything suspicious, please report it to the police or Report Crime Anonymously. There is no place for drug trafficking in our municipality.”

The decision to close the property was made on the basis of the Opium Act and the municipal Damocles policy. The mayor can close a property after finding a commercial quantity of drugs in order to put an end to the situation and restore safety in the neighborhood.
