The funeral chapels at the cemeteries in Brielle and Rockanje have been completely modernized. Alderman Bal visited both chapels on Wednesday, March 11, to see the results. The spaces have not only been beautifully renovated but also made more energy-efficient. The chapel in Brielle can accommodate 100 guests, while the one in Rockanje can hold 120 people.

Alderman Bal: “Our auditoriums were in dire need of modernization; this way, we’re creating a warm and sustainable space. We’re offering bereaved families a peaceful and intimate setting for their farewell.”

Relaxed atmosphere

The floors and walls in both auditoriums have been refurbished. New furniture featuring natural colors and fabrics has also been installed. This creates a calm atmosphere that is appropriate for a respectful gathering.

Personalizing a funeral

The buildings are now completely gas-neutral. Solar panels provide green energy, and LED lighting reduces energy consumption. There are also new audiovisual resources, such as large TV screens. Funeral directors can prepare the ceremony online and play it during the service. Bereaved families are free to choose their own caterer, allowing them to personalize the gathering.

Memorial Column

In addition, a memorial column was installed at the cemetery in Brielle in 2025. Here, bereaved family members can have a nameplate made in memory of their loved ones. A similar memorial column has been in place in Rockanje for some time.
