Program for Remembrance Day and Liberation Day in Voorne aan Zee
On this page, you will find the program for Remembrance Day and Liberation Day in Voorne aan Zee.

On Thursday, May 4, we commemorate the victims of World War II and all those—civilians and military personnel—who have lost their lives in the Kingdom of the Netherlands or anywhere else in the world since the outbreak of World War II, both in wartime and during peacekeeping operations.
Friday, May 5, is Liberation Day. On that day, we celebrate the liberation of the Netherlands in 1945 and the fact that we have been able to live in freedom ever since. We also take a moment on that day to reflect on the value of freedom, democracy, and human rights.
Stolpersteine in Voorne aan Zee
Stolpersteine, also known as stumbling stones, are small brass stones used to commemorate the victims of National Socialism during and around World War II. The brass Stolpersteine are placed in the sidewalk in front of the victims’ last residence. Each brass stone bears the name of one victim. Below that are the year and place of birth, the date of arrest, and finally the place and date where the victim was murdered or died.
Stolpersteine are memorial stones and explicitly not gravestones. They help us reflect on the fate of victims during and around World War II. They bring them together again, in memory of the families that were suddenly torn apart under National Socialism. On May 4, flowers are often laid at the Stolpersteine to commemorate the victims.
There are tens of thousands of Stolpersteine scattered throughout Europe. In Voorne aan Zee 28 at 8 different addresses.
